Inside the Circle, behind the Fence
Malmberget is slowly being consumed by a growing hole in the centre of town, created by the collapsing mine underneath the city. I went there to collect fragments from the abandoned houses inside the fence, and use them to encapsulate my stained-glass pieces. Inside The Circle, Behind The Fence deals with cultural whitewashing in post-industrial society, and power dynamics between centre and periphery in the industrial extraction process. It also raises questions about the building of cultural identity in a degrading environment.
